PURPOSE
The first physical Tankmeeting of 2022 was focused on the topic of how to future proof when planning long term. Alfa Laval is facing an interesting challenge in the post-covid world – they are building a brand new Innovation Lab after 50 years in Tumba. The vision of the Innovation Lab is to create a place where partners, customers, academia and startups want to visit, meet, collaborate and thrive. Where creativity and innovation flow effortlessly and spontaneously.
Building such a place is a capital-heavy investment and the rental contract is being signed for 22 years. How can you build flexibility into the new site, in order to adapt to the unknown needs of the future? During the day, two main challenges were covered:
Challenge #1: How do you plan for an unpredictable future when making long-term investments?
Challenge #2: How do you turn a site into ‘the place to be’?
We also focused on paradigm shifts, reflecting on the past and present in order to glimpse into the future.
